The only reason I am able to celebrate such an honorable day and have the privilege of calling myself a mother, is because almost 10 years ago I gave birth to a black boy. He is the reason why against all odds I still rise every morning looking for and making ways for my little black boy to live his life out harmoniously with all the goodness and righteousness the universe has to offer him. It is my duty to move in spite of myself to assure he has a future to look forward to that affords him a life where he is able to be the best black man he can possibly become. I am responsible for one of God’s greatest mission on earth, I am a mother.

Within me is a deeply rooted need to create and foster a space where my son can feel proud to see someone who looks just like him being appreciated loved and protected. A space where he can see black men upheld to a higher standard and quality of life, one that exudes excellence in his existence. It is why I go so hard for Black Men With Beards in its entirety. I am the mother a black boy who is going to grow into a black man in America. That scares me and fuels me and the same time. We all know what the world has done and continues to try and do to us. I have a responsibility to the black man forever because I gave birth to a black boy. I am a mother. And as we honor all mothers on this day for all the beautiful godly strong beings we are, I give thanks to my son for allowing me to be a part of such a cool ass club of black royalty.

Happy Mother’s Day
