One thing I enjoy is traveling alone. In September 2015, I flew out to Paris and spent a week experiencing a culture unfamiliar with my own. My trip to Europe spawned a change in me, as I've been soul searching for the past few years - but around this time last year I got this idea to create a calendar for BMWB. Like any good idea, it starts out small, and it grows like a seed planted in the mind. This year has been a year of reflection, growth and the inevitable change, and I knew in my heart that with such a huge platform and a voice, I wanted to do all that I could to instill and promote a positive change within the black community. So last month, I fearlessly flew out to New York for the first time and I teamed up with some amazing individuals, Wil Allen of B.A.B.E of Brooklyn, Chaunna Henry, an amazing photographer in New York (seriously y'all, she is super dope, check out her work), and a group of beautifully bearded black men to create the first Black Men With Beards Calendar! Surrounded by Black Excellence, we had a great time in the studio, talked about life, laughed, had a few beers and took some amazing photos!
The calendars themselves are works of art. Printed on Fine Art Paper, they are 5x7 in size, and come with 12 inserts of each gentlemen that participated (view sample in the gallery).
What I love mostly about this project is that it will give back to people who need our help. As some of you know, Haiti, a free nation, never recovered from a 7.0 earthquake that hit in 2010 that devastated the country. 6 years later, Hurricane Matthew made landfall and did further damage. With every calendar purchase, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Haiti Communitere, a non-profit that helps Haitian communities gain access to much needed resources, knowledge, and skills they need to rebuild their country. For more information, please contact us with any questions.
Many thanks go to our participants that took the time to come out and have their photograph taken, our official sponsor B.A.B.E of Brooklyn, and Chaunna for her time and talent!
